The Imo State government on Monday condemned the killing of a soldier in the Eastern Province of Yeo-Oma.

State of the Union Information and Strategy Commissioner Dylan Imlumba said the crisis was “regrettable and inevitable”.

The commissioner said the slain soldier was on duty when he was killed.

“The Imo State government was shocked and dismayed by what happened in Awomama yesterday in the eastern part of the state,” Imulumba said. The ugly event is regrettable and can be avoided

“The government condemns the killing of a soldier by unknown assailants. Of course, this soldier, who was legally obliged to ensure the free flow of traffic and to protect life and property, should not have died on such a tragic Monday, November 22nd.

“On the other hand, the government has denounced reports of the destruction of property by angry soldiers. The burning of civilian homes and businesses was not an appropriate response because two mistakes will never justify it.

“Therefore, the Governor-General of Imo State, Senator Hop Uzodina, has ordered a high-level investigation into the cause of the problem and the loss of life and property.”

“Therefore, the government urges both parties to exercise restraint and maintain peace during the investigation.

“The government appreciates the great sacrifices made by law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of all law-abiding citizens.

“On the other hand, it is recommended that the community always cooperate with the security forces to track down the culprits and arrest them.”

“Finally, the government expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
