Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhein has been ruled out for three months after undergoing surgery on his cheek and eye socket.

Serie A leader Napoli made the announcement in a statement on their official website on Tuesday.

As a result, the striker could miss next year’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The statement said: “On Tuesday morning, Victor Osimhehen underwent surgery on Gianpalo Tartarrow on his cheek and eye socket.

Titanium plates and screws were used during the operation.

“The player is doing well and will be under observation for the next few days.

“Osimen is expected to return to action in three months.”

The Nigerian international suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Inter Milan in a clash with Inter defender Milan Screener.

He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

22-year-old Odiyon Igalo has become Nigeria’s first-choice striker since his retirement in 2019. He is in a good position for the national team, scoring four goals in Qatar’s 2022 World Cup qualifying group.
