Salerno Manager Stefano Kolantuno has backed Nigerian striker Sime Nwanko to reaffirm his side’s approach to the Italian Serie A.

The 29-year-old has netted just once in 12 league games this season.

He failed to repeat last season when he scored 20 league goals for FC Croton in the Italian Serie A.

This extraordinary feat broke the record of Obafemi Martins and made him the top scorer in the Italian Serie A in Nigeria.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match between Salernita and Sampdoria, Colantuno advised the Nigerian to calm down due to a goal drought.

“Simie, I’m very strict. There are times when you don’t shine during the championship. I talked to him, he always scored. Calm down.

The road is difficult, it may need to continue. “But we are always on the run and we cannot buy all the athletes for any management,” he said.

Simeone has joined Salernitana for € 6m after a stint in Croatia.
